Many are the consequences of bitcoins rally. Some people got rich, some people missed the chance. Some analysts and economists said things they now regret. And so on.
One of these many stories around bitcoin’s rise is the one of the Bulgarian police. Back in May, the Bulgarian authorities seized more than 200,000 bitcoins, which is now the equivalent of $3 billion.
It’s interesting how it remains unclear what the Bulgarian government is doing with the seized bitcoins. The Bulgarian government declined to release further details, alleging an ongoing criminal investigation.
At the time of the seize, the total amount was worth $500 million – less than one-sixth of its current value today.
